Lazy Saturday Randoms

Today has been a really LAZY day and I am loving it!! School is busy and I finding I am exhausted at the end of the day, so just relaxing today feels so good!!

These past few days the weather has been so gorgeous!! Today we're in the 70s! Is it really January? I am loving these temps, I just really hope it doesn't mean it's going to get HOT faster!! It seems when we were having colder temps and snow, other parts of the country were warmer and now that we're warmer they're getting hit with SNOW! So crazy!! It's weird that it was almost a year ago, we had our COLD blast! I am sure our cold days aren't over, so I better keep those winter clothes out a little while longer, just incase.

It seems I have become obsessed with painting my nails!! Seems like every Saturday afternoon, I sit down and redo them. It's weird how I go through these phases.

I am currently reading The Best of Me by (You guessed it) Nicholas Sparks! It's definitely an enjoyable read. These past few days I have found myself reading in the middle of the night! I tend to wake up each night at 2am, my mind begins to wonder and I find I can't shut it off, so I pick up my book and read a few pages which seems to help me fall asleep. I guess that's another reason why I've been SO tired this week!!

It looks likes it's that time again! Time to do my nails! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Faith

With each season comes different themes! You know what I mean! Like commercials on tv, during the summer it's all about refreshing drinks, vacations, swimming etc! As we move into Thanksgiving it's all about food and great recipes and of course lets not forget the SHOPPING as we move into the Christmas. So now that we're in a new year its all about weight loss, exercise and New Year's resolutions. For some reason I cringe every time I see (or read) these adds. I guess it's guilt, I should be making these changes too and making myself better. Last year I made a list of goals I wanted to accomplish in 2011 and I am kinda embarrassed because I didn't stick with many of them! Sigh!

So, this year I am just not going to make goals or resolutions BUT one thing I do want to do is have a ONE word mantra, like last year! Last year, my word was Proactive. This year I think the best word for me is....

FAITH

If I've learned anything this past year it's I need to have faith! Faith that the Lord has a plan for my life, faith to know that His timing is perfect and faith that Lord know's what's best for me. Recently I've gone through some things that have been hard to understand, both personally and professionally (Sorry to be vague and trust me I am not meaning to be, it's just somethings I've decided to keep private.) and they've reminded me that my plan in not the Lord's and the only thing I can cling to is my faith.

Trust the Lord completely; don't ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God First, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Proverbs 3:5-6

Books I Read in 2011

I know it's already January 7th but I thought I do a recap of the books I read in 2011. Since I didn't really start loving to read until just a few years ago, I'm still in awe sometimes that I actually read books and ENJOY it!! If you're new to my blog, you may not know that I had a VERY difficult time learning to read as a child. I struggled so much I was turned off to reading most of my life. It wasn't until just a few short years ago that I developed a love for reading.

So here are the books I enjoyed this past year! (From to time to time I like to go back and see what books I read! I know kinda silly!)

I started off the year reading The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. LOVE this book but MAN it made me CRY!!!

Next I read Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah. Another tear jerker but oh so good!! LOVED it!

Then I read The Notebook....

Followed by...

The Wedding both by Nicholas Sparks.

(Do you see a pattern?)

I had seen the movie, The Notebook, SEVERAL times but never read the book!! Of course the book is SO much better! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!! The Wedding (Sequel to the Notebook) is pretty good too!

Then in March I started the book Safe Haven and YES by none other than Nicholas Sparks!

This was the first book I read on my iPad! Takes reading to a whole new level!! Sadly I sold my iPad in September! :(

In April I read the Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah

and

I loved Water For Elephants and really liked the movie too!!

The next two book were fun easy reads...

The movie Something Borrowed was not anywhere as good as the book but I am still hoping they come out with the movie Something Blue!

Then just recently, over my Christmas break I read

And that's a total of 12 books!! I am so thankful I document what I read here on my blog. I am sure I wouldn't have remembered all of them, otherwise! I doubled my reading record! I wonder if that means in 2012 I'll read 24!! It's definitely a goal to strive for!!!

Hello and Happy New Year!!

Well once again I've been a little quite here in the blogland! I hope everyone had a great Christmas!!

Mine was pretty good and I LOVED every minute of my days off from school! This year we decided to stay home. The past 3 years we were in Arizona with my sister and her family for Christmas. I REALLY missed being with them on Christmas but I also enjoyed being close to home this year. The first part of my vacation was pretty busy. It seemed like everyday was filled with something! I am not complaining, I actually like the hustle and bustle of the holidays! We even got a little snow on the 23rd and 24th!! It made this Christmas extra special and helped to get me in the Christmas Spirit!!

The second half of my break was spent mostly being LAZY!! I read 2 books and am in the process of reading another now. I also watched the TV series Parenthood on netflix. I LOVED it and I am kind of sad I am all caught up and have to wait until next week to watch it again!!

I started back to school this week and I've literally hit the ground running!! The Spring semester is always stressful as we are in TESTING crunch mode!! As literacy coach, this time of year gets pretty intense!!

Hope you're having a wonderful New Year! So far 2012 is off to a good start! I am hopeful it's going to be a great year!! I pray this is the year dreams come true!!!

A thief with a beard--

This is what I woke up to this morning!!

Since I am on vacation, I haven't really paid attention to the news which means I was clueless about the forecasted weather! Yesterday, my hubby informed me we had a chance for snow today but I honestly thought it would just be a few flurries! I am mean we live in west Texas after all. So this morning while laying in bed and checking Facebook on my phone I realized it was snowing! I had to jump up and go peek outside and was shocked that it was WHITE!!! I felt like a little girl on Christmas morning!! I realize by the 25th it will probably be gone but I'll take it a few days early and call it a white Christmas!!

Hello....Christmas Vacation!!

Friday at 12:15 I was officially on Christmas vacation. So far my vacation is off to a great start!!

Friday I went to lunch with my hubby. It's not often we can have lunch together on a week day. We then ran a few errands and did a little Christmas shopping. Later that evening we ended up having an impromptu dinner date with my dad at a nice steakhouse. We typically only go there on special occasions, which made it even more spontaneous!

Saturday we got up early, so we could take the truck into get an oil change. (We also picked up Starbucks on the way!) While we were out we decided to do a little more shopping afterwards. Later that afternoon we went to a birthday party on my hubby's side of the family.

Yesterday we did a little bit more shopping. I am happy to say I think I am about done with my shopping. Then today I spent most of the day with a good friend. We met for lunch then hung out at her house and ended the day going to dinner too!! It was nice getting to visit with her! I would definitely say I am enjoying my time off!!

This is the first year in about 4 years that we are staying home for Christmas. I hate not getting to be with my sister on Christmas but I am enjoying just being home this year too! Tomorrow I hope to have a lazy day at home. I do have to do some laundry and a few other things around the house but for the most part I am thinking it's going to be a PJ kind of day!!

Oh yes, I just love being on Christmas Vacation!!!

Movies

I love this this movie!! It's one I grew watching with my family and I can still hear my dad's giggle when I watch it! He LOVES this movie and laughs throughout the entire thing!

I love LOVE this movie!! It's one I can watch all year!! I have it saved on my DVR and love to watch it when there's nothing else to watch!!
Music
I love all Christmas music!! I listen to it off and on all day. I love traditional carols and my favorite are instrumentals and choral pieces. I get really annoyed when artists take the liberty to change them up or add their own interpretation! If I can't sing along and harmonize with it then it's NOT my kind of music!! Guess I am kinda stuck up when it comes to Christmas music!!

It's Snowing and Taco Soup

This was my Facebook status about an hour ago! (And yes, I see my typo. UGH!)

That's right it's SNOWING!! For us southerners it's a BIG deal when we get the white stuff!! I especially LOVE that it's Christmas time and it's SNOWING!! I am all bundled up with my tree all lit up, christmas candles burning and watching A Charlie Brown Christmas!! LOVE IT!

So tonight for supper I made taco soup! It was so yummy and perfect on this cold evening! I got this recipe from Bethany a while back and thought I would share it here too because it's really easy and super tasty!!

Ingredients:

Pound of ground beef
can of corn
can of diced tomatoes (I get the one with tomatoes and green chile)
can of ranch style beans
Packet of taco seasoning

Instructions

Fry your ground meat. Then in a soup pot combine all the ingredients (including the meat) and let simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. Basically heating it throughout. Then serve with a dollop of sour cream, graded cheese. I also crunch up some tortilla chips in mine too!!

I am telling you it's YUMMY!

So I am off to peak outside and see how much snow has fallen!!

Book I Want to Read

Last night while at Target I noticed there are TWO new books out that I am dying to read!!

I love when James Patterson writes girly romance books!! He's typically known for his mystery novels. When I saw this I was so excited and it's a CHRISTMAS book too!!

And of course, I love anything written by Nicholas Sparks, So this one is a must read too!!

Unfortunately, I didn't purchase EITHER book!! I had other things I NEEDED to buy so these books will have to wait. I am hoping I can my hands on them at the local library!

Speaking of books, today I FINALLY watched Water for Elephants. I had wanted to watch this movie since last April when I finished the book! I really liked it! I was impressed the movie followed the book so closely. I thought Robert Pattinson did a great job and of course Reese Witherspoon was wonderful! But I Christoph Watlz, who played August was amazing!! He honestly made the movie!

The Redbox

Last week during my week off, I got really acquainted with the local Redbox!

Many nights I would watch my movie, with just enough time to take it back and get another one! Gotta love a week off of school!

Here are some of the movies I watched:

LOVED this movie!! Such an inspirational story!!

This movie was ok.

Definitely not a favorite but was enjoyable to watch.

This was such a great movie and it's a true story!!
If you love horses, this is a MUST see!!

I really love participating in Andrea's 2 for Tuesdays posts! This week we're talking about Christmas traditions. I've been blogging since 2006, so it seems I've written on this topic several times over the years. Sometime I think that's why I don't blog as much anymore because I feel like I say the same things year after year!!

When it comes to traditions I like what I said about it last year. When thinking about which 2 Christmas traditions to share today I realized I kind of put traditions into categories. Traditions I did as a kid, new ones I have started with my hubby and ones I hope to create one day when I have a child of my own.

So these the two I've decided to share today AND I don't think I've written about them before!!

1) Every Christmas I give my nephews a Christmas ornament, that I some how personalize with their name and date. It started when Tyler (who is now 13!) was just a baby. I remember putting up my little Christmas tree in my apartment that year and realizing most of the ornaments were given to me when I was a little girl and several of them were from my aunts. It was then that I fell in love with idea and it's something I've bought them EVERY years since they were born. I always try to find them boyish ones that somehow relate to whatever they are into (like this one pictured here.) I sure hope one day when they have a tree of their own they enjoy going through the years worth of ornaments and know just how much their Aunt Jennifer LOVES them!!

2) Eating TAMALES!! This time of year we always enjoy eating tamales!! One good thing about living in West Texas is there are lots of great places that sell them! The best tamales though are the homemade ones my hubby's family makes every year to eat on Christmas Eve!! I am looking forward to being home this year and being able to eat yummy tamales on the 24th!

Crochet Challenge Update

So it's Monday which means I am suppose to do my crochet challenge update (even though I think I've missed more Mondays than actually posting!)

So this is how far I've gotten so far......

I don't think I've made one stitch since my last update!! Oops!!! I do have a good excuse though I have been dealing with some personal things (sorry to be vague just don't feel comfortable blogging about it.) I am doing ok, it's just been a rough couple of weeks. I am hoping to get back to crocheting soon!! As you can tell from this picture it's sitting right on my coffee table, where I can see it and be reminded that I need to pick it back up! I WILL finish this project, even if it is after Thanksgiving!!

BTW you can also see my advent candles on my coffee table AND in the top corner a peek of my tree!! I love Christmas!!

Black Friday Recap

If you've followed my blog for awhile you may remember I am a huge fan of Black Friday shopping. This year was a little different as most stores opened at MIDNIGHT!! As crazy as it may seem we don't typically buy a lot on Black Friday. We just like to partake in the craziness of that day! I know we're weird!!

Thursday we picked up the paper so we could go through all the deals. Sadly there really weren't any GREAT deals that we felt like we had to get but there were a few things that if we were out we would pick up. So Thursday night we didn't know if we should stay up and head out at midnight OR get a few hours of sleep and get up early and hit the stores. We decided to go ahead a get some sleep and just set the alarm for 5:00 since there wasn't anything we were dying to buy. Well around 2 AM we were both awake at the same time and just decided to get up and start our morning! I know we're CRAZY!!

Here I am at about 4:30AM at Starbucks!! I NEEDED some caffeine at this point!! In fact that was my first cup of REAL coffee since last January when I gave up caffeine!!

I only picked up a few things!

We had a fun morning!! At about 10:00AM I was beginning to FADE and needed my bed!! It was a perfect day for sleeping as it was a cold and rainy! As you can tell I didn't buy a lot but it was a fun morning with my hubby! And really when else can you spontaneously get up at 2:00 in morning and go shopping? It only happens once a year!!

Two on Tuesdays

It's been awhile since I've participated in Andrea's Two on Tuesday but I am trying really hard to be a better bloggers, so I figured I'd play along today.

Today we're talking about PET PEEVES!!

I've talked about a few of my pet peeves before and basically they are the same but here are two pet peeves that came mind when thinking about this post.

1. When you hold a door open for someone and they don't say thank you!! That just gets under my skin!

AND

2. When you are trying to get off an elevator and the people needing to get on just barrel through not letting you out first!! I've been having to ride elevators lately and this is something that just drives me NUTS!!

So basically the lack of stranger etiquette are my main pet peeves!!!

Crochet Challenge Update

So it's Monday and I am actually posting an update on my crochet challenge!! Aren't you proud??

Well, I pretty much explained where I was on my challenge on my 11-11-11 post and I haven't crotched much more since then. Well besides the few stitches I got in this evening before getting distracted but here's a picture of my progress.

Once again this in not a good picture. I literally snapped it quickly on my chair before I sat down to write this post. This picture might be a little deceiving because I turned the blanket long ways to drape over the chair instead horizontally, like in all the previous pictures.

Like I mentioned before, I am on the last skein of yard and thinking it will probably be enough to finish the main part of the blanket and then I'll have to get some more for the ruffle.

I am pretty happy with my progress so far. My goal is to have it finished up by Thanksgiving which gives a little over a week to finish and I am thinking if I get around to purchasing more yarn I should be able to reach this goal. We shall see!!

Take My Life

One of things replaced on my computer this past week was the speaker so I've been enjoying listening to music while on my computer today. One song I have played OVER and OVER is Take My Life sung by Kari Jobe. This song just really gripped my heart and brought me to tears while listening. It was a great reminder that I need to give ALL of myself to Lord. It's been a really long time since I posted anything for Worship and Praise Sunday, and since this song spoke to me today I figured the Lord was encouraging to me to share it here on my blog.

One of my favorite lines in this song is, Take my voice and let me sing, always only for my King!

Oh Lord, please take my life and use it to your glory!

Happy 11-11-11!

Well once again I've let several days go by and not updated my blog! I bet you're tired of me starting EVERY post like this! I know I am but this time I have an excuse!! My computer was at the computer hospital for almost a week and I just got it back today!

With today being 11-11-11 I thought I would write 11 random things going on with me!! I know, real original!!

1. I want to start out by thanking the many men and women who have served and are serving our wonderful country! Thank you for your service and sacrifice!

2. I have thoroughly enjoyed having the day off today! It was a gray and gloomy day, perfect for lounging around and being lazy!! Can't wait to have Thanksgiving week off!! Only one more week!

3. Since I didn't have a computer for a week I have 655 entries to read in my google reader!! Wow!

4. Since I was home today and got to watch some daytime TV I realized there are LOTS of Christmas commercials already airing! It makes me excited for the holidays!! I can't believe the season is already upon us!! Seriously where did the year go?

5. Again, because I was without a computer this week I missed my Monday crochet challenge update! I am making pretty good progress on it! I am on my 4th (and last) skein of yarn and really thinking I am not going to have enough. I am hoping it will be enough to finish the main part of the blanket and then I'll have to get more for the ruffle that goes along the edges. I'd like to get the same color yarn for the ruffle but it would be ok, if I need to do it in a white or cream. We will see. I haven't taken a picture of it lately so, I'll do that soon and hopefully update this coming Monday!

6. Speaking of crocheting, this week I was interviewed by some 5th grade boys at my school for our school newspaper. They were so professional asking their questions and did a pretty good job writing up article too. One of the questions they asked, was what I like to do outside of school. I, of course, told them that I LOVE to read and that I also crochet and knit. Well when I read the little article yesterday I CRACKED up because it said, Mrs. M, loves to read in her spare time. She also plays CROQUET and knits too!!

7. I am currently at Starbucks on my computer typing up this post! It's been a long time since I've brought my computer to a coffee shop. There is a group of girls at a table next to me that are hard at work working on an assignment for a college level class, it seems. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I MISS DOING HOMEWORK!!! I know I am crazy but it's true! I miss that since of accomplishment and the satisfaction you get from working so hard on a paper or assignment. One of these days I just might bite the bullet and go back to get my doctorate!

8. Remember when I was so sick with my sinus infection? That was OVER a month ago and I still have a nasty cough!! It's starting to drive me CRAZY, especially at night when I am trying to sleep!! Grr!!!

9. Ok, I know I said I was going to write 11 random things but I am drawing a blank!! Guess I'll just do 9 on this the 11th day of November!! I am sured I've bored you tears anyway!!

Thursday's Thoughts and CC update

It's Thursday and once again I've really neglected my blog. So much so, I didn't even update on my crochet challenge on Monday! I've had a lot going on lately. I just haven't had time to sit down and write. I'll post a pic of my crocheted blanket project at the end of this post!

Can you believe it's November? This year is FLYING by!! Can't believe Christmas is less than 2 month away? Yikes!

Speaking of November, this year is the first year in several years that I am not participating in NaBloPoMo!! I won't lie, I did think about doing it but it's just not something I felt up to committing to this year!! Maybe next year I'll have my blogging MoJo back! Are any of you participating this year?

Today is the first real day it felt like Fall! I got to wear my favorite hoodie to work! Yay!

Now that Halloween is over Starbucks has busted out their holiday cups!! It's always an exciting day when you get your first hot drink from SB in a holiday cup!!

And now, for my crochet challenge update! As I mentioned I've had lots going on so I haven't gotten as far as I would like. I have done a few more rows and I am now on my 3 skien of yarn, which makes me nervous that I am going to run out!! But here's what I have accomplished so far!! Hopefully this weekend I'll get some time to get more done on it!

Week 1: Crochet Challenge

I am excited to say I've made great progress on the blanket this week. I crochet a little every night and am happy with how it's coming along.

(I might be doing well with my crocheting but need some serious help with photography!! Ha!!)

I noticed it takes me about 30 minutes to complete each row. When I'm fighting the yarn, it takes a bit longer!! Any knitters or crocheters have any tips on keeping the yarn from getting all tangled up??

Speaking of yarn, I am a little nervous that I don't have enough yarn to complete this project. I bought four skeins and I've used one and half so far. As you can tell from this picture I am not even half way not mention I have to do the ruffle around the edges when I am done. Hoping I have enough!! I keep thinking I can always do the ruffle in a white or cream color if I run out of the pink. At least that's an option!

Thursday's Thoughts

1. I am noticing more and more bloggers writing Thursday Thoughts posts, which makes me wonder if they got the idea from me? I started doing them a couple of years ago. I am sure it has NOTHING to do with me!! Just interesting!

2. I've decided that Thursdays are BAD TV nights!! I used to watch Grey's but haven't watched it in a couple of years. Any suggestions are welcomed!!

3. Today a first grader told me I smelled like play-dough. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad!

4. I've crocheted every night this week and my blanket is really coming along but I am not going to post a picture until Monday.

5. It's been 2 weeks since I was sick with my sinus infection and I still have an awful cough! I hate how the cough seems to linger forever!!

6. This Fall has been unseasonable warm here in Texas!! I am so ready for cooler weather!! We've had a couple of chilly nights and mornings but the warmer days out weigh the cool ones. I am ready to pull out my sweaters!! Come on FALL cool off already!

7. I am so ready for Thanksgiving break!! Again this year we get the week of Thanksgiving off and it can't come soon enough!! For now, I guess I'll settle for the weekend!! So happy tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!

At the end of September I saw on a couple of blogs the idea of a 31 Day Challenge during the month of October. What I LOVED about this was participants got to pick their own challenge!! I seriously considered joining and thought long and hard about how I challenge myself. These two things came to mind: 1)A handmade craft challenge or 2) A crochet or knitting challenge. The idea of having to come up with 31 days of handmade crafts overwhelmed me just a bit! So I was leaning more toward the crochet/knitting challenge. Since I've become a knitter/crocheter I've always wanted to make a blanket, whether it be a baby blanket or an adult throw but have never taken on such a big project. (Actually that's not completely true I once started knitting a baby blanket, made a huge mistake, got frustrated and gave up.)

I've decided to challenge myself and crochet this baby blanket that I saw on the blog Maybe Matilda. Isn't it CUTE?? Rachel is an amazing crocheter!! I am just in awe when I see her work!

The 31 Day challenged mentioned above was also a blogging challenge where you write everyday your progress and I'll be honest I can either blog or crochet everyday but not do both. And honestly who would really want to read that many posts about my crocheting progress. So I'm taking the idea and making it my own, not to mention it's the middle of October and I am just barely getting started!! Basically you could say this isn NOT a 31 day challenge but rather simply a crochet challenge! I am hoping by publicly putting it here on my blog, I'll have some accountability and FINISH this blanket!!

This weekend I picked up some yarn, studied the tutorial and began crocheting the first couple of rows! It's going to be time consuming as each row has something like 168 stitches but I am already seeing it slowly take shape, which makes me excited!!

My plan is to post an update each monday (since I'll probably do the bulk of the work on weekends) and it's my hope to have it completed by Thanksgiving.

So there's my Crocheting Challenge!! We'll see how it goes! Wish me luck!!

Happy Thursday! Here are some random thoughts rolling around in my head tonight!

It's been a week since I came down with my nasty sinus infection! I am feeling so much better but still have some congestion and an awful cough! Why does it always take so LONG for the cough to go away!! I ended up taking another sick day on Monday and really should of taken a third day on Tuesday but I hated being out another day. So glad to be feeling more like myself again!

Once again I am writing this post using my iPhone! It amazes me how I can basically can do all my favorite things on my phone! It just blows my mind how far technology has come in such a short time! I am going to try adding a picture on this post to see how it works and where it places it once I hit publish. I love the pumpkin "apple" logo! It's my new wallpaper on my phone! Isn't it cute?

Tonight I had to pick up somethings from Costco and was surprised by how much Christmas stuff is already out! For the past several years I have not looked forward to the holidays. In fact I would DREAD them but tonight seeing all the pretty trees lit up made me happy and excited that Christmas is just around the corner! I thought that was a good sign! Hopefully this year's going to be different! Can you believe It's almost Christmas?

Sick

It's one o'clock in morning and I can't sleep due to a head full of snot and a constant tickle in my throat!!

Today or rather yesterday I took my first sick day of the school year. I made a strict rule this year I would only take a "sick" day if I was running a fever and really sick! Last Saturday I woke up with a sore throat and had that funny feeling in my sinuses. I was able to keep going throughout the week. Nights and mornings were the worst but once I got the day started I would feel better. That is until Thursday when it seemed as the day progressed the worse I felt. That evening I felt like I had been hit by a Mack truck and sadly I was running a fever, which meant I would allow myself to take a sick day.

I am not a doctor but I am pretty sure I have a classic case of a sinus infection. I am hoping I can wait it out as I hate having to take antibiotics!

I am laying here in my bed typing up this post on my iPhone using my newly downloaded blogger app. Hoping to fall asleep soon and pray I wake up feeling lots better!

What were your two favorite childhood toys?

I LOVED my cabbage patch dolls! I had SEVERAL over the years. I had the twins, the premie, the one that went into the water, and so many more!! My very first one looked pretty close to the one in this picture. I can still remember how they smelled like baby powder!

I loved anything kind of baby doll accessory!! Strollers, basinets, baby carriers, you name it!! If it had to do with baby dolls I LOVED it!!

I guess even at a young age I knew I wanted to be a mommy!! Now, I just hope I get to have a REAL baby doll of my own one day!!

Caffeine Update

Last January I gave up caffeine and since it's been over 9 months, I thought I would give a little update!

I can't say I've gone nine months without a drop of caffeine BUT I can say I've cut back A LOT!!! I do have an occasional glass of ice tea and I have had a cup of DECAFE (still has a little caffeine) coffee too. I've also had, my all time favorite, DIET COKE here and there too BUT they're not something I drink on a daily basis! I'll treat myself every once in a while. I have had weeks though where I've indulged a little too much and make myself cut back again.

As it's getting cooler though and with FALL is among us, I am craving coffee more and MORE! I am going to have to be strong because all I want is a big cup of pumpkin spice latte or my new Starbuck's favorite salted caramel mocha latte!! YUM!!!!

Sigh!

My Voice Crushes

When I was younger I had a pretty decent singing voice. I sang in choir in both high school and college. I also sang in church choirs from a pretty young age. In my early twenties I was very active on my church worship team. Back then singing was SO important to me and I LOVED it!! Once I graduated from college and began my teaching career, it seems my singing days slowly came to an end (except singing in the shower or my car.) Sadly, the old saying, if you don't use it, you'll loose it, is true for me!! My singing range has decreased significantly and my ability to hold my breath has dwindled!! It's so sad because I REALLY miss it!

Lately I've become OBSESSED with Adele!! Her voice is amazing! The more I listen to her, the more I have a CRUSH on her voice!! One of my favorite's is Someone Like You.

My other voice crush is Amy Lee from Evanescence. Her voice is absolutely incredible!! Seriously amazing! Lithium is one of my favorites and really showcases her vocal ability!!

And Evanescence's new CD comes out October 7th!! Here's their new single!! I can't wait!

I'd love to get back to singing, just don't know how to go about getting back into it again!! I guess for now, I'll just continue to sing along with these girls while riding around in my car!

Saturdays

Oh how I LOVE my Saturdays!! All week long I am counting down to my favorite day of the week!! This morning I had breakfast with my good friend Patty. Now that we no longer work at the same school we have a standing date once a month. It was so good to visit and catch up. We still talk and text often but it was good to SEE her face and hug her neck!

Today, hubby and I are going to see the Lion King!! It's one of my all time favorite movies. I've seen it too many times to count and yet I am still excited to see it again in the theaters!!

I am so happy it's finally FALL!! Now, if it could just feel like Fall! I am not complaining though, as it's definitely cooled some!! This Summer was brutal!

I've never been shy to admit I am a HUGE TV junkie! The two shows I am excited to start back are:

Another one of my favorites is Brother and Sisters but it won't be on returning this Fall! SO SAD!!! Love that show!! Sunday nights won't be the same anymore!!

Introduction Activity

This week I continued to do introduction activities in classes at my school. It's basically a way for me to introduce myself to the class. It's also allows for them to get to know me and for me to get to know them. I start off by discussing what my job is as literacy coach. Which a few of them thought I was in charger of picking up LITER! Ha!!

I then group the students up and have them take a true/false quiz about ME!! Since I am new to this school these kids don't know anything about me so they are basically have to guess. I have questions like:

Mrs. M has never taught 3rd grade.
This is Mrs. M first year to be a teacher.
Mrs. M has a cat named Charger.
Mrs. M is NOT married. (Which this questions lets me see which students know MRS means a woman is married.)

The kids get to work in teams to answer the questions and hearing some of their conversations were too funny. One Third grader said:

"Why would she name her cat Charger?" (The way he said it was the funniest part! He was so serious and animated! and BTW that's FALSE! I have a DOG named Charger not a cat!)

When deciding if I was married I over heard one boy say:

"She has to be married because she's so sweet and nice!" (MADE MY HEART MELT!!!)

One aspect of my job is to go into classes and model lessons for teachers. It's 2 fold as I help reinforce concepts to students but it's also a way for the teachers to learn from me. (That's where I get the title of coach.) Even though this activity wasn't teaching a literacy concept I was able to model some classroom management techniques such as how to group students, fun ways to bring kids back to together after working in groups, which student gets to use the marker etc. This is honestly the part of my job I love the most!!

I am really enjoying getting know the kiddosl!! They are so sweet and I am proud to say I am slowly learning their names!! It may take me the entire year but I am determined to learn as many names as possible!!!

Happy Thursday!!

-Today the weather was PERFECT!! It was nice a cool this morning with overcast skies most of the day! LOVE IT!!

-Tonight was the last live eviction show on Big Brother! Next wednesday is the finale! I can't believe this season of Big Brother is almost over! Honestly where did the the summer go?? All my favorite house guests have been evicted so now I really don't care who wins. Well I definitely have a preference but I won't be disappointed who wins at this point!

-Today was the first day I actually worked with KIDS at school and I LOVED it! Working with kids is so much more fun than adults! One of the things I've missed being at a new school is the students didn't (don't) know me! At my old school when I would walk down the hall, I'd feel like a celebrity with the ton of kiddos saying hello and giving me hugs. This year I've felt like such a stranger which is exactly what I was (am) to them! Today I made it into 6 classes doing a little introduction activity and I always leave with the challenge of them quizzing me on their names when I see them in the hall. Well with out fail after school I had SEVERAL kids coming up to me asking me if I knew their name! I even got two hugs in the process!! Made my day!

I can't seem to think of any more random thoughts, so I guess I'll call it a night! Hope everyone is having a great week! So happy tomorrow is Friday!

I am SO excited Fall is quickly approaching!! Fall is my all time FAVORITE time of the year! There's so many things I love about FALL but I can only pick two so here are a few reasons why I LOVE Autumn!!

I especially enjoy burning them during the Fall season! I love pumpkin, cinnamon, spice, carmel apples etc!! When ever I smell these scents I'm giddy that Fall is right around the corner!

Fall Decorations

I LOVE decorating my house for Fall!! I also LOVE doing crafts and I hope to do both of these BOO crafts! Aren't they cute? This weekend I spent lots of time looking through Pinterest and found LOTS of cute FALL ideas!! It really makes me want to pull out those Fall decorations!

Catching Up

Since I've been MIA I figured I'd play a little catch up to get me back into the swing of blogging.

School has started and it's off to a pretty good start. As I've mentioned before I am at a new school and for the most part I am getting situated and adjusting to my new surroundings. Change is never easy but I can see how this is going to be good for me. I feel like I am being pushed and challenged to be a better literacy coach.

Last week I was picked to be on a jury. It was the first time I had ever been on a jury before! I hated being away from the school for an ENTIRE week but it was an interesting process and I have to say I actually enjoyed my week doing my civil duty!!

I am loving my three day weekend!! Yesterday, I was SUPER lazy!! It felt so good to just rest and relax! I worked on my my blog design and then last night went to supper with my hubby and walked around the mall and did a little shopping!

We went to a store that sells used CDs and DVDs and I found one of my all time favorite Christmas CDs for a $1.99

I LOVE Amy Grant's Home for Christmas CD! I've had this CD since I lived with my parents and it's probably 20 years old! It's all scratched and always skips when I play it so I was excited to get a "new" copy!! When I got home last night I was tempted to play it but refrained and will wait a couple more months!! Can you believe the holiday season is right around the corner?

Today I gave my blog a fresh new look!! It seems there's been a common theme lately which basically is I just haven't felt like writing!! I can't believe it's been over 2 weeks since I last wrote not to mention I've only written SEVEN posts in the past TWO months!!

I've been blogging for five years and over the course of these years I've definitely had highs and lows when it's come to blogging BUT it's never been this bad!! I've even contemplated not blogging anymore but it's really hard giving up something that has meant so much to me over the years!!

Now that I've spruced up this place maybe it will inspire me to blog more!! I am not promising anything but it's worth a try!

I AM EXHAUSTED!!!!!

I am officially a Falcon (my new school's mascot!) The first few days were REALLY hard!! I was so emotional but with each passing day, I began to find my way and slowly it's beginning to feel like home! Everyone is SO nice and very welcoming!! I couldn't have asked for friendlier people to work with on a daily basis!

After THREE trips I finally have all my stuff cleared out of my old school and moved into my new school! (After being at one school for seven years you accumulate a lot of ~~CRAP~~ STUFF!) I even have it pretty much put away and organized in my new classroom.

I still have some work to do in my new literacy lab. Lots of boxes and books need to get organized but at least my personal things are in their place and out of the way! I also need to put fabric on the bulletin boards and make it look cute! It will come together soon but at least it's pretty much presentable for the first day of school! (For the kiddos!) Speaking of the first day of school, I am SO excited to see the school filled with students!!

I am slowly adjusting and happy it's the weekend so I can rest and recuperate!

Changes

Today I finally found out my new assignment!! I will still be a literacy coach but at a different elementary school. I went to the school this afternoon and met with the principal, math and science coach and they were all very welcoming. I am heart broken about leaving my old school. I've been a teacher at that school for the past seven years. I've made many friendships and am so sad that I won't see them on a daily basis. On the other hand I am excited about meeting new people and creating new friendships! I know I will grow at this new school. It's pushing me out of my comfort zone which is always scary but can be a good thing too! It will mold and shape me into a better educator!

Tomorrow, I start the school year at my new school!! I am nervous and scared!! It's not easy being the new kid!! I want to thank everyone that has been praying for me and for those who have left such encouraging comments!! You're the best!! Wish me luck! Tomorrow's the first day of school!!!

Hello Again!

Once again it's been awhile since I last posted. I've just not been in a blogging groove lately. I am sure I'll get it back soon!

There's not really a whole lot to report. School starts this coming Tuesday, August 16th, for teachers and sadly I still don't have an assignment!! I am trying to stay positive but I'll be honest IT IS HARD!!!! I've been a ball of nerves these past few days not knowing where or what I will be doing in just a few short days!

I did have a couple of interviews for literacy coach (same position I have now) at two different schools last week and I am hoping to hear something on Monday.

I've been asking the Lord what He is trying to teach me through this ordeal. I know it can't be patience because honestly I have an abundance of that! One thing I keep being reminded of, is to fully trust in Him. That He has it all mapped out!! I'm trying, I mean REALLY trying to trust His plan and know He has the best place for me.

On a happier note, tomorrow is my birthday!! I am going to let God handle my job situation and just enjoy my day!!!

Hello Blogosphere

It's been far too long since I last posted!! Sunday we returned home from our wonderful vacation!! We were gone for over two weeks. We went to sunny California where we had a wonderful time visiting family, sight seeing, visiting Mickey and playing in the water! We had such a fun time!

We also spent a week with my sister and her family in Arizona on our way back to Texas. It was nice spending time with her and the boys. Last Wednesday was my nephew, Tyler's 13th birthday!! I loved that I was with him on his special day! I also can't believe he is a TEENAGER!! Wow!! Where have the years gone? Time really flies!

Now that I am home, I am just enjoying some down time before the school year starts up again. As you can tell from my last few posts, the first part of my Summer was rough. I wasn't able to rest and enjoy being on Summer break. Don't get me wrong, I treasured the time I had with family and especially my grandmother the weeks leading up to her passing but those weeks were hard and DRAINED me. I am needing these next few days to just be still and relax!

Still not sure what I will be doing come this Fall. I have an interview for a literacy coach position at another school next week. I really don't know how I feel about it, so I am just leaving it in God's hands. I will let you know when I hear something!

Hope everyone is doing well. With all that has gone on this Summer and being on vacation I have not been by very many blogs, (I have over a 1000 posts in my google Reader) but hope to be by soon!!

It's been awhile since I last posted so I thought it was time to give a little update!!

I want to thank everyone who left such sweet and encouraging comments on my last two posts! I also want to thank everyone who has been praying for me and my family. They have been felt and I can't thank you enough!

My grandma went to be with Jesus on Friday, July 8th. She lived 85 wonderful years and it is a blessing to know she is no longer suffering. She was an amazingly strong woman! I will treasure the memories I have of her, especially the last month of her life! I was able to spend lots of special quality time with her. Her mind was strong even up to her last day!

Seeing her so sick was probably one of the hardest things I've been through but I am beyond thankful for the time I had with her. My sister has been here off and on for about 3 weeks where I spent most days with her. I was also able to get to know and spend time with aunts, uncles and cousins. It's been kinda crazy these past few weeks but there has also lots of laughter and good times too.

I still don't have any news to report on my job situation. Still waiting!! Ugh!!

We will be leaving soon for California!! I am looking forward to getting away and having fun on vacation!!

Let's Get Real Part 2

I want to start off by thanking all of you who left such sweet comments on my previous post! Honestly they mean a lot!! I've been pretty strong knowing everything happens for a reason but honestly it's hard. This morning I woke up thinking about my job and trying to figure out when I should I go clean out my classroom. When to move my stuff and WHERE to move it!! I was brought to tears by the simple fact I don't want to leave this school!

With everything going on with my job situation, I am also dealing with a lot personally as well. I've mentioned before my grandma is very sick. She's not doing well. I've been spending lots of time at her house helping take of her and my family. It's not easy! I hate seeing her so sick and suffering.

I am sorry these past two posts have been sad. I am not trying to gain sympathy, I am just being real and I'll be honest today was rough. I'd love it if you would keep me and my family in your prayers. We really need it!

Hopefully I'll get back to posting more light hearted and fun stuff soon!!

Now, that my 21 Day Summer Challenge is over (which was a lot of FUN!!) I think it's time to write about something going on in my life!! It's time to get real!

A week ago today I received a call from my district informing me that my position at my school is being cut in half between another school. The Lit coach at the other school has more seniority therefore she will be sharing schools this coming school year. Basically that means I don't have a position! Thankfully I DO have a job, just not sure what or where!

I want to start off by saying I am beyond THANKFUL to have a job! I know several people who are unemployed and being laid off so the mere fact that I still have a job is such a blessing!! With that being said though I am extremely SAD to be leaving a school that I've worked at for the past seven years. I've made so many friends at this school and I don't even want to think about leaving the students!! Ugh that alone makes me cry!!

This past week I met with the director of human resources to discuss my options. Sadly I don't have many right now. There are NO teacher vacancies and only 2 Lit coach positions in the district. (There are a total of 4 lit coaches who are displaced.) I was encouraged to apply for some assistant principal positions that will be coming available soon, which I plan on doing.

So as of now, it's a waiting game. Waiting to see if it's time for me to move up as an AP. Waiting to see if any teaching positions come open. Waiting to interview for the the two vacant lit coach positions. I simply I have to WAIT!!

The waiting process is HARD! I catch myself worrying about the fall all the time but I do have a peace about the situation! A peace that it will all work out!! A peace that things happen for a reason......I just wish I knew what that reason could be!!

Day 17 Summer Camp

Today's Topic:

I am not sure why but I've really been looking forward to writing about Summer camp!! Starting the Summer before my sixth grade year I began attending summer camps every summer! They varied from church camp to band camp (YES I attended Band Camp!!)

The very first camp I attended was your basic church camp! One where we stayed in cabins, had bible study, arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, camp fires etc. I was a real momma's girl and really didn't like the idea of going an entire week with out her but my mom bribed me in order to get me to stay the entire week!! Want to know how she bribed me? If I stayed the entire week I could SHAVE MY LEGS when I got home!! Needless to say I had a great time, stayed the whole time and had nice SMOOTH legs the night I returned home!!

The next two summers I attended Band camp at Sul Ross University. We stayed in the dorms, had band practice, saxophone lessons and ended the week with a BIG concert for our families! Those summers I did fine going off and leaving my mother (although I did miss her!) I thought I was so grown up staying in the dorms and eating in the dormitory cafeteria! The second summer I accidentally put my hand through a window and cut my wrist. I ended up with stitches and couldn't play my saxophone because my hand was all bandaged up!

The Summers I was in high school I attended a camp called Super Summer; one year at Baylor University the another at Harden Simons University in Abilene Texas. Super Summer was an amazing Christian (Baptist) camp. Not like the tradition church camp I first attended but a camp where I really learned the importance of worshipping and growing in my walk with the Lord. Honestly I believe Super Summer is what molded me into the Christian I am today. If you're interested here's a current video about Super Summer! Watching this video brought back SO many memories! It's neat that they still have these camps! They really are great camps for teenage students!

I attended a few other camps through out my teen years. One up in Jackson Hole Wyoming. That really was a special camp because it was the last camp I attended before going off to college! It was COLD up in Wyoming! I remember it snowed on the 4th of July!! That was just insane for this Southern girl!!

I could probably go on and on with Summer camp stories but I am sure I've bored you to tears!! Did you ever attend a Summer Camp? If so I bet you have a lot special memories to share too!!

I really hope to get some great ideas from everyone's posts today! One of my Summer goals was to try new recipes and cook at home!!

Today I am not really sharing a recipe but rather a great way to eat YUMMY strawberries this Summer!!

A friend of my mom's introduced us to this back when I was a kid. First you dip a freshly washed strawberry in some sour cream (YES sour cream) and then dip it into some brown sugar and EAT!! I know it may seem like a weird combination but trust me it's delicious and perfect for a summer night snack!

How do YOU beat the HEAT?

Here in West Texas IT.IS.HOT!!!! We've had several days of triple digit temps although today we actually had a nice cool down of 96 degrees!! I can not begin to tell you how nice it was today. Don't get me wrong 96 degrees is STILL hot but it seems so much more bearable after so many excruciatingly HOT days! I better enjoy these cooler temps because come Friday we're suppose to be back up to 106! Ugh!!! So with that being said, how do YOU beat the HEAT on these HOT summer days?

I wish I could say I spend my days laying poolside sipping frozen lemonade on these HOT summer days but thats just not realistic. Basically the way I beat the heat is by STAYING INDOORS. The sad thing is even sometimes it's pretty hot even in the house! So I take COLD showers. Typically at night before I go to bed. This summer we purchased a portable refrigerated air conditioning unit for our bedroom which has been a life savor this summer! Needless to say I spend a lot of time in my bedroom than the rest of my house! I also make sure to drink lots of COLD water!!

Today's Topic: Childhood Swimming Memory

I grew up LOVING the water, therefore I have LOTS of fun swimming memories!! My childhood home had a community pool just down the street from our house. On hot summer days we'd just get on our suits, grab a towel and walk to the pool! Sometimes we'd even pack a picnic lunch and have lunch there too! I have so many great memories of that pool! Ahhh such good times!!

Another fun swimming memory was swimming in a lake in New Mexico. My family had a boat so we would go several times during the summer months. We would spend all day on the water swimming, water skiing and fishing! Love those memories! Oh how I wish we still had that boat!

Today's Topic: Favorite Summer Memory

Since my mom was a teacher/principal she too had summers off so I had LOTS of great summer memories! Here are a few that came to mind!

When I was about 7 years old my family went to San Diego. I remember going to disneyland, Sea World, San Diego Zoo and of course the beach! It was a really memorable trip!! (I'd kinda like to recreate that trip this summer if we go Cali!!)

One Summer my family traveled in a motorhome across the country to the New England States. My father was a contractor and was helping remodel an older couples home. We were there for about a month. I remember many evenings we would walk the pier and eat the BEST coffee ice cream!!

Many summers my sister and I would be shipped off to our Aunts' houses while my mom was working on her Masters degree. We would usually start off in Houston with her older sister and then fly (by our selves) to Austin to spend another few weeks with her younger sister! I was a momma's girl and missed my mom terribly BUT loved getting to have some special time with my aunts and cousins!

As I grew older I spent most summers at Summer camp, which I will write more about when we get to camp day!!

Today's Topic: LEMONADE Stand

Growing up did you ever have a lemonade stand?

I did!

One summer, I was probably 10, my sister, cousins and I had a lemonade stand! I don't remember how much we charged per cup I think maybe 25 cents. We also sold bubble gum! I remember us planning our sales around trash days. Back then men rode on the back of garbage trucks, they would jump off and gather up all the trash next to your house. We figured they would be THIRSTY on these hot summer days and we could make a lot of money!! We were quite the entrepreneurs!! If I remember correctly we made about 3 bucks, which when you're a kid was so exciting! It's definitely a fun memory!! I think every kid should have a lemonade stand! It can teach a lot of great life lessons!!

I LOVE lemonade!! It's a great refreshing drink on these HOT Summer days! In fact I am drinking a glass right now! Since giving up caffeinated drinks back in January I've become a big fan of juices and have a new LOVE for lemonade.

I have found the BEST lemonade is Simply Lemonade! It's made with real lemon juice and all natural sugars. It's the perfect combination of tart and sweet. It's become a staple in my house. I absolutely LOVE it!!

Today's Topic: Summer Vacation

Since I have Summers off I always like to go somewhere during this time!! A couple of times we have gone to Las Vegas!! LOVE that place! It's probably one of my favorite places to go!! We've also enjoyed a couple summers with my sister in Arizona and last year we enjoyed our Texas Road trip!

This year I am hoping to go to california!! My hubby has never been and it's been far too long since I've been there so I figured it would be a great place to visit!

While we're there we'll spend a few days visiting Mini and Mickey

and enjoy the sun.

21 DSC: Summer Goals

Summer Goals

I am not sure why but I am struggling with this topic! I guess it's because when you set goals you have to WORK toward them!! I do however have somethings that I'd like to accomplish this Summer and honestly they are some of the same goals I've mentioned before!!

I really need to clean and organize our spare bedroom! This is going to be a HUGE job but it's something that needs to get done this summer!! I have a feeling it will take several days, which is perfect since I have a couple months off! Maybe I can take some before and after pictures. That would make a great post for later!

One of my New Year's goals was to be better at working on hand made gifts for Christmas and yet I haven't made anything! I've been itching to pull out my sewing machine so I am really hoping I can sew up something great and I'd love to crochet or knit something too!

Continue cooking at home and try some new recipes! We have been doing really good with sticking to your menu plans each week and I've even been the head chef!! I am finding I don't mind cooking when I am not tired and know what I going to COOK! Now that it's summer cooking actually seems kinda fun instead of a chore!

I think those will keep me busy this summer.

Summer.....Love it or Hate it?

I actually have a LOVE/HATE relationship with Summer!!

I absolute LOVE it because I am on a Summer vacation!! I love the time I get to be home and rest. To recharge and rejuvenate after a long tiring school year!! Trust me when I say teachers NEED their summers!! I enjoy the activities that summer brings too: like being outside, going on vacation, spending time with family, eating cold ice cream on hot summer nights.....

BUT

I HATE the scorching HEAT that comes with summer!! Here in Texas (especially right now) it is H.O.T!!! I am talking triple digit temps for days HOT!

Thankfully I can stay inside where it's cool so if I had to choose one over the other I would definitely say.....

I LOVE SUMMER!!!

All About Jen

I am thirty something blogger and have been blogging for close to five year!! Wow, I can't believe I've been blogging that long!! I am an elementary teacher, I've been teaching for eight years. I've taught 1st and 2nd grade. I was a special education teacher for one year and the past two years I've been in more of a leadership position as literacy coach. A literacy coach deals with all things relating to reading and writing. My dream is to be a principal one day!! I have a masters degree in Educational Administration and Leadership. I love children and have a passion for teaching and learning!

I am happily married to my best friend! We hope to start a family soon! We have a 12 year old Miniature Pincher named Charger. I was born and raised in Texas! I am proud to be a Texan!! When I am not blogging or teaching I enjoy crocheting, knitting, crafting and when I feel brave I'll pull out my sewing machine!! I also have a huge love for reading!!

It's Thursday morning and I am sitting on my couch writing my Thursday's Thoughts post!! Ahhh I LOVE Summer!!

Today I'm meeting my two graduate school buddies for lunch!! We don't get to see each other often. I always look forward to getting together with them and catching up!! Now that we are on Summer break maybe we can stay in touch better!! I LOVE Summer!

FOUR weeks from today my all time favorite TV show begins!! BIG BROTHER!!! Yippee!! Another reason why I LOVE Summer!

It is HOT here in Texas!! We're suppose to be above 100 for seven days straight!! I am afraid it's going to be one HOT and DRY Summer!! One thing I DO NOT love about Summer!

Last night I finally tried the chicken florentine recipe I had been wanting to try for a couple of weeks! It was REALLY Yummy!!! Hubby was impressed!! He says I am becoming quite the cook!! NEVER THOUGHT I SEE THE DAY!!!

I finally finished Something Blue this past weekend! I really liked it!! I was a little unsure how I felt about Something Borrowed. I struggled with the storyline because it goes against my moral code BUT I wanted to know what happened to Darcy and Rachel! They are both really easy fun books to read!! I highly encourage you to continue reading Something Blue if you've read Something Borrowed! You'll be glad you did!!

Tomorrow we'll kick off the 21 Day Summer Challenge!! I am excited!! I think it's going to be a lot of fun and a great way to keep up with blogging as well as getting to know new bloggers!! Can't wait to see y'all here tomorrow!!!

I don't know about you but it seems like I am in such a blogging RUT lately!! Tonight I began surfing my own blog (Do you ever do that?) and realized how sad my blog has become!! It seems like most of my posts lately are weekly memes. NOT that they are a bad thing, they're NOT I love them! I just haven't posted much about me or my daily life. I feel very withdrawn and the need to be private. There have been numerous times in the past few weeks where I've started a post and deleted it midway through because I felt like it was too personal. I HATE having to sensor myself but don't feel comfortable divulging such personal things on the internet. Which means I stay in my comfort zone of posting on weekly memes!!

While surfing my blog I was reminded how much I enjoyed participating in a couple of blogging challenges a while back. These challenges gave me a daily prompt which helped keep my blog fresh and allowed my readers to know a little more about me! With summer here (ok, it's technically not summer until June 21st BUT it definitely FEELS like summer in Texas!) I was thinking it might be fun to host a Summer Blog Challenge!! Book Club Friday

I recently came across Heather's blog which I LOVE but I especially love her Book Club Friday posts! I am always looking for great books to read so I enjoy seeing all the book suggestions and this week I've decided to join in!!

I am currently reading Something Blue by Emily Giffin. It seems like I've been reading this book for several weeks!! Hoping to finish it up soon!! Maybe this weekend!

Something Blue is the sequel to Something Borrowed which I read about a month ago. I love to read books that are turned into movies! I still haven't seen the movie but I hope to soon!

Both Something Blue and Something Borrowed are easy fun books to read but I have to be honest I did struggled with actual concept behind the books a little.

Thursday's Thoughts

Happy Thursday!!

This week has been SUPER busy at school! It's always like this when wrapping up a school year and I am WIPED!

I am so happy Scotty won American Idol! I loved that both he and Lauren were pretty much evenly paired and they seemed so grateful to be in the finals! I just might start listening to country music!

Tonight I am watching So you Think You can Dance. I've never watched this show before so I figured I would tune in this season. It seems like something I would enjoy! Does any know how long the audition shows last? Hope it's not dragged out as long as the ones on American Idol. I am not a fan of the audition shows.

How come every time I paint my own nails, the polish ALWAYS bubbles? I first thought it was because my polish was old, so I bought new polish and it still bubbled! Next I thought it was because the polish was cheap, so I purchased OPI (which seems to be better) but still bubbles some!! Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? It's so annoying!!

We finally got our TAKS scores! Over all they were awesome! I have to say though that even though the passing rates were in the high 90s, I still get a little sad for those few students who don't pass! As a teacher I want all the students to succeed!!

Today, I attended a training on expository writing and LOVED it! It seems every time I attend a writing training I leave wanting to teach 4th grade!! (In Texas writing is tested in 4th grade.)

I now have 5 days left until Summer!! Well actually I have 7 days but I am not counting the teacher work day or the CIT planning day!

Today's my Aunt Cyndie's birthday!! Happy Birthday!!

So happy tomorrow's Friday and I have a THREE day weekend! Yippee!!

Poppyseed Chicken Casserole

I snapped a quick picture with my iphone before we ate tonight.

Tonight I was brave and tried a new recipe! I've actually been doing pretty good in the cooking department with the help of the world wide web! Tonight we had a poppyseed chicken casserole. I got the recipe from Kelly's Recipe blog. It turned out SO yummy!! I think I even impressed my hubby!! Next I plan to try Kelly's Chicken Florentine but I think I'll wait until next week! Don't think I can be too adventurous in the kitchen in one week!!

I definitely LOVE when I am home when it rains!! I sit by our back door and listen to the rain and feel the cool breeze come through the screen door! I usually watch TV, on the computer or BOTH!!! Oh how I would LOVE a rainy day!! We have not received rain a really long time!! We NEED RAIN!!!

2. what time do you go to bed?

Most nights around 10pm.

3. how many magazines do you subscribe to?

Zero! Never been a big magazine reader!

4. did you sell all your belongings because you thought the world was ending yesterday?

NOPE!! The bible clearly states that no one knows the day or the hour when the Lord will return therefore I was pretty confident it wouldn't happen yesterday! I love what Mark 13 says about this very thing!! Not even Jesus knows the day or the hour!!

Yes!! I've been menu planning since January and it's been the best thing EVER!! A few weeks ago we got off track a little when my grandma was in the hospital but I am proud to say last week we stuck to it pretty well!!

Thursday's Thoughts

-Yesterday was the last day of TAKS testing!! I am thrilled to have this testing season behind me!! Now we wait for our scores which should be here any day now!! Praying for good scores!!!

-My grandma is out of the hospital. Now she needs to build up her strength so she can get well. She's still VERY sick and I pray that being home will help her have a will to live!

-Tonight my ear is really sore! Last night I felt like I was having an allergic reaction because my ear was itchy along with my head and under my arm. Today the itchiness is gone but my ear is sore. So weird!

-I am currently reading two books. It's the first time EVER that I've read two books at the same time! I am reading Something Blue and Winter Garden. Now at night I always have a hard time deciding which book to read! Why oh why did I start two books at the same time??

-There are only 10 more school days left until SUMMER VACATION!! Yahoo!!!

1. have you ever gone to see a movie by yourself?

No, but it's something I've wanted to do, especially since hubby and I have very different tastes in movies! One of these days I'll be brave and go it alone!

2. would you rather go through a tornado or a hurricane?

Ummm Neither!! I am not a fan of any kind of storm. Ok, that's not true I LOVE Summer rain storms but If I had a to choose one I suppose it'd be a hurricane since they can usually predict those in advance.

3. have you made summer vacation plans?

NO but since I only have 3 more weeks until I am on Summer break I am really itching to go somewhere!!

4. what's your favorite accessory?

My purse!! I LOVE all kinds of fun bags!!

5. have you ever been thrown a surprise party?

Yes, If I remember correctly it was my 15th birthday. My 2 best friends planned it, little did they know I figured it out the day before but I still put on my surprised face!! I wonder if they know that I knew!! Hmmm??

6. are you friends with your neighbors?

I wouldn't say that we are friends but I have VERY nice neighbors. We always say hello and good morning in passing!

7. what's the last movie you saw in the theater?

I honestly can't remember! I remember hubby and I going to see a movie after eating at Red Lobster a while back but I can't for the life of me remember what we saw!! Guess it didn't leave an impression!! I would LOVE to see Water for Elephants and Something Borrowed. Maybe I can see one of them all by myself!!

Ok, after finishing this post I finally remembered that the movie was True Grit! (I think we saw that back in January!)

8 what's your favorite food network show?

I am not a big fan of the food network but I do watch Cupcakes Wars from time to time!

The Weekend Blogger

I feel like I am becoming a weekend blogger!! It seems my last few posts have been weeks apart. With the end of the school year quickly approaching life's taken over and blogging a back seat. There are only 3 more weeks left which makes my heart HAPPY!! I am so ready for Summer!

There's a lot going on with me personally. I mentioned in my last post my grandma is in the hospital. Thank you to all of those who have been praying for her. She's still needs them as she has a long battle ahead of her but she's a fighter! She's ornery and spunky and I know it's what's going to help her to fight!

Worship and Praise Sunday: Perfect Peace

Happy Sunday! This week I've decided to share another song by Laura Story called Perfect Peace. I chose this song today because my heart is heavy and this song seems to bring me peace. Knowing that even in life's challenges and struggles, He will always give you Perfect Peace!

Mother's day is always a difficult day for me. My heart hurts because I miss my mom so much! Even though it's been 9 years since she went to heaven, it's still really hard. Of course Mother's day is also hard because I am STILL not a mom.

Another reason my heart is hurting is because my grandmother is very sick and in the hospital. It's been a difficult few days and she needs lots of prayers.

To all the mother's out there I do wish you a very Happy Mother's Day! You deserve to be celebrated!! Hug your babies and if your mama is still here on Earth treasure your time with her!! If you're hurting today, please know you're not alone. The Lord loves you and I believe He will give you peace!

YES!! I wrote all about it yesterday!!

Coffee and Scones, however I haven't had a cup of coffee since January!!

Definitely Prince Harry!!

4. can you speak in a english accent?

No not really although sometimes when I read stories to my students, if I think it fits the part, I try to read in a British accent. My students LOVE it but I am sure I sound pretty ridiculous!!

5. do you own a fancy hat?

No, and not sure I want one!!

6. would you rather live in a castle or an english cottage?

Cottage for sure!!

7. how old were you when prince charles and princess diana got married? were you even born?
I believe I was 5. Not sure exactly of the exact date. Was in 1981?

Worship and Praise Sunday: I Refuse

This week, I was faced with a decision that took me out of my comfort zone. I found myself thinking of all the excuses as to why I couldn't do it and then the Lord reminded me of the song by Josh Wilson called I refuse. It was at that moment, the Lord was speaking to me and knew what I needed to do.

Sometimes I,

I just want to close my eyes

And act like everyone's alright

When I know they're not.

This world needs God

But it's easier to stand and watch.

I could pray a prayer and just move on

Like nothing's wrong.

But I refuse.

'Cause I don't want to live like I don't care.

Royal Wedding

I've debated writing a post about the Royal Wedding but since I've been slightly obsessed with it since yesterday, I figured I'd go ahead and write one!

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his bride Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

I didn't watch it live! I just couldn't get up that earlier but I did enjoy watching it yesterday on my DVR. I also watched the Lifetime Movie William and Kate last night too! They just seem so down to earth! I thought the wedding was great!! It was formal and yet I loved when their humanness came through from time to time!

I loved both of her dresses!! They were so classic and beautiful!!

I've been doing some "research" about the royal family and the succession to the throne. I was able to find some answers to my questions but there are a few I still don't know!

What is Prince William's last name?

From what I learned the royal family doesn't really have last names! How crazy is that? However the surname Mountbatten-Windsor is used for all descendants of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II excluding females who marry. Therefore, Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname of all male, and unmarried female descendents of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II including Charles, William and Harry.

I also learned the name William uses in the British Army is just William Wales.

How come Kate is a duchess NOT a princess?

From what I understand (and I could be wrong) since Prince william is not next in line for the throne (his father is) he and Kate are titled duke and duchess. Once his father becomes king (and he is next in line) then Kate will be titled princess. Again I am not exactly sure if this is correct but that's how I understood it from the different sites I read.

Here are the questions that have not been answered yet. If you know the answers, let me know if the comment section!

Why isn't Prince Phillip considered a King if he's married to the Queen?

Queen Elizabeth II is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and yet he is not considered the King. I am assuming it's because in order to be king you have to have royal blood (not just marry into it) BUT then I wonder why they keep saying Kate will be the Queen one day when she's not of royal decent!! I am so confused!!

How do they get the origins in their titles?

Ok, I am not sure if I am asking this question correctly but what I am curious about is the location if their titles. For example:

Prince of Wales
Duke of Cambridge

Prince of Edinburgh

I understand it has to do with where they are from but what confuses me is how come Prince William isn't Duke of Wales if he used to be Prince of Wales AND Prince Charles' siblings have different origins as well. See why I am confused?

Ok, so as you can see, I have in deed become obsessed!! It's just so neat to see a real fairytale come to life! I hope and pray the newly weds can live a long and happy life together!

Thursday's Thoughts

Happy Thursday!

I didn't think Thursday (or Friday for that matter) would ever get here! It has been a REALLY long week! Today we finished our TAKS testing! PRAISE THE LORD!! We now just have one more test administration in the middle of May and then we will be FINISHED with this testing season!! Woop woop!!

This afternoon I got my nails done and it feels so NICE!!

So are you watching the Royal Wedding? I am planning on DVRing it so I can watch it this weekend! Don't think I'll be awake at 3AM to tune in!! It's history in the making, which is fun and exciting!!

This past week I've finished TWO books! Water for Elephants was a little slow in the beginning but definitely picked up! Now I am DYING to see the movie!! Have you seen it? If so what did you think?

Last night I finished Something Borrowed. It was a fun and easy read but the ending left me hanging a little. I guess I 'll have to read Something Blue to find out what happens!

My heart goes out to all those people who lost homes and loved ones in the awful storms that devastated the states in the south. You all are in prayers!!

My eyes are getting heavy (I am so tired tonight!) so I am going to go rest and finish watching RHNY!

Testing Week

Today we started our BIG week of testing week! This week our 3rd and 4th graders are taking the Math and Reading TAKS test and 5th grade is taking the Science. I feel pretty confident they will do great!! Speaking of great, last week we received our scores for the read and math tests our 5th graders took back at the beginning of April and they were FANTASTIC! We had the best scores in the entire district!! So proud of them! It's always exciting when we see our hard work pay off!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter Sunday! I LOVE this holiday simply because we celebrate a risen Savor! To me this is the most important holiday of the year!! I am thankful beyond words for His sacrifice! It is my prayer that today eyes will be opened and the whole world will see that He has Risen!!

For worship and praise Sunday I am going to share one of my favorite hymns, How Great Thou Art sung by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gill. You may have seen it either on CBS or the internet! It's truly a great video and in my opinion one of Carrie Underwood's best performances! This performance was aired on CBS Friday night! I LOVE that it was shown on primetime TV!! So Awesome! I also LOVE the audience's reaction!! It's a wonderful thing to see people praising the Lord!!

Friend Making Monday: The Grocery Store

It's been awhile since I've participated in FMM and this week we're talking about grocery shopping. Since I spent most of my afternoon shopping yesterday I figured it be fun!!

1. Do you make a list when you go grocery shopping? Do you stick to it?
Yes and Yes!! Back in January we started menu planning which has helped us stay on a budget! Of course sometimes we add a few things not on the list but for the most part we stick to it!

2. Do you buy more groceries when you're hungry?
Yes, I believe I do, especially snack foods like chips and cookies!! I remember my mom saying NEVER go grocery shopping hungry!

3. Coupons. Use 'em?
No, I wish I did! I'm just not good at it!!

4. Have you ever complained to the manager of your grocery store?
No, I don't think I have.

5. Do you like to buy groceries at huge chain stores like Wal-Mart and Target? Or do you shop exclusively at food stores?
We buy groceries at Costco and Albertsons. I am not a fan of Walmart and we don't have a Super Target close by our house.

6. How much time do you spend reading labels in the grocery store?
I am not sure how much time I spend but we recently started watching our fat and sodium so I find that I am reading them a lot more!! I am shocked at how much sodium is in EVERYTHING!!

7. Do you push your own grocery cart to the car and return it?
Yes, I push my own cart (just seems awkward to have them help me) and ALWAYS return my cart to a cart corral!

8. What is the one food item you always buy at the grocery store that you must have in the kitchen?
Fruit: bananas, oranges, and sometimes apples, oatmeal, lemonade and yogurt.

9. Do you enjoy grocery shopping?
I wouldn't say I enjoy it but it's not too bad. My least favorite part is unloading the car and putting everything away!

10. How often do you shop for groceries? Usually once a week. Recently we started making menu plans for two and three weeks but I still need to go for a few things (mainly produce) about once a week.

This past Monday morning while I was on my way to work I heard the song Blessings by Laura Story for the first time. I had had a rough night the night before and feeling VERY tired and really anxious. Blessings came on the radio and it was like the words were speaking to me. I love it when the Lord speaks to you through song! I knew I had to share today for Worship and Praise Sunday!!

Today, I decided to combine W&P Sunday and Getting to know You Sunday, so here are my answers to this weeks questions!!

1. what's something you've eaten and liked, but didn't think you would?

Scallops- I am not a huge fan of sea food (although I think I am beginning to develop a taste for it) and thought for sure the first time I tried scallops I would HATE them! I was so wrong because I absolutely LOVE them!!

2. plastic surgery..yay or nay?

Ummm I don't think there's anything wrong with a little "Help" but when you begin to look PLASTIC then I think it's just wrong!

3. 2 things you love about spring are.....?

Flip Flops and 70 degree temps! (Sadly here in TX the 70 temps don't stay around too long!)

4. when's the last time you went on a picnic?

As a little girl my family went on picnics ALL THE TIME!! I don't think I've been on one since I was in my early twenties!! I miss those days!

5. what's your favorite app?

Right now I would say Overdrive. It's a great FREE app where you can check out ebooks from your local library!! Currently I am reading Water for Elephants!!

6. who does the grocery shopping in your house?

Me! Sometimes I can convince hubby to come with me, which I always enjoy! Hoping he'll come with me today!!

7. would you rather take a spin class or zumba?

Zumba although I've never done either!

8. how often do you go out to dinner?

About once week. Typically on Saturdays.

Show Us Your Life: My BookShelf

One of my favorite blogs to is Kelly's Korner and this week I am participating in her Show Us Your Life weekly event!! This week's topic is what's on your reading list and since I've been on a reading kick lately I thought it would be fun to join in!!

I am getting ready to read this...

I love reading books that are made into movies! I hope I can finish it before the movie comes out next week!!

I have two favorite authors that I typically alternate between, Nicholas Sparks and Kristin Hannah! LOVE them both!! Here are a couple of books I've read in the past few weeks.

I absolutely LOVED this book!! It reminded me a little of the movie Sleeping with Enemy but was so much better! I think it's going to be made into a movie in the near future! Can't wait to for it to come out!

This was a sweet book! I enjoyed this book very much! I love the relationship between the little girl and Julia. The ending was a little predictable but it was still a great read!!

This is a typical Nicholas Sparks book and I LOVED it! I basically read this book in one day!! So Good!!

Thursday's Thoughts

Phew!! It's FINALLY Thursday (which means tomorrow's Friday!), so here's a little of what's been going on with me!!

It's been a LONG week! It seems like every night this week I've had something to do and it has worn me out!!

Last night I started feeling a little under the weather. I don't think it's anything major. I have a mouth full of blisters (I get them often when I get worn down) which makes it really difficult to chew or swallow. I am thinking that's mainly what's wrong but non the less I am not feeling too great right now.

There are SIX more school days until my 3rd and 4th graders take the TAKS test! We are working hard getting these kiddos ready for the test! It's been a little exciting seeing the growth these students have made over the year!! It seems like several of the ones I've been working with in small groups are FINALLY starting to grasp the things we've been working on. So exciting!

It has been so WINDY here lately!! I definitely like Autumn better than Spring because I just don't like the wind! Hoping the winds calms down soon so we can enjoy the pretty Spring weather before it gets too HOT!!

I am going to watch a little reality TV before it's my bedtime!! Happy Thursday Everybody!

I've been debating whether or not to write this post because I don't want it come across as whiny or trying to solicit comments but I find it kinda odd that my last post, which I wrote on Sunday, has ZERO comments! It's weird because I haven't had a post go without comments since March 2009!

I realize the lack of comments has a lot to with me. I know it's a two way street and I've NOT been good to comment on other blogs either. Maybe I need to get my nose out of a book and start interacting with my blogging buddies.
